William H. Holmes Archive

Holmes was Head Curator of the Department of Anthropology, Smithsonian Institution, from 1897–1902 and again from 1910–1920.

He was a prominent figure in the institution, also leading the Bureau of American Ethnology (1902–1909) and the National Gallery of Art (1920–1932).
