Art and the Panama-California Exposition

Paintings of the Panama-California Exposition:

Colin Campbell Cooper, Jr. (1856—1937) was an American Impressionist painter. He created several paintings of the Panama–California International Exposition in San Diego in 1916. At San Francisco’s Panama–Pacific International Exposition of 1915, he had won a Gold Medal for oil and a Silver Medal for watercolor.

Modern Art at the Exposition:

A modern art exhibit was on display in the Fine Arts Building during 1915 at the Panama-California Exposition. The exhibit included many impressionist works by artists dubbed members of the “Ash Can School.” The Exhibit was arranged by Alice Klauber and Robert Henri, under the direction of Edgar Lee Hewett. In 1916 The Netherlands Art Exhibit was moved from San Francisco’s Panama-Pacific International Exposition after that exposition had closed.
