Alfred R. Mitchell (1888-1972) was an artist and teacher. He studied with artist Maurice Braun.
On the back of this painting is written:
“Prize winning picture of the S D Art Guild / San Diego Exposition / Fred Mitchell / San Diego, Cal. / 5/17/1915” (Apparently this was the painting for which he won a silver medal at the Panama-California Exposition in 1916.)
